A beginner's guide to brewing herbal teas

A great cup of herbal tea isn't complicated — but a few small choices make the difference between a forgettable mug and a small daily ritual.

Water matters more than you think

Use fresh, filtered water if you can. Bring it to a gentle boil for most herbal blends — roots and barks like ginger and cinnamon want the full boil; delicate flowers like chamomile are happier just under it.

Give it time

Most herbal teas need 3-5 minutes to properly steep. Cover the mug while it steeps so the aromatic oils don't drift away in the steam.

Make it a moment

Warm the cup first. Sit somewhere you actually like. Herbal tea rewards attention, that quiet minute is half the medicine.
